“Morning, Flowering Apple Trees, Eragny” by Camille Pissarro (1898)
Activities
Look: Look closely at the picture and try to notice everything you can. Tell about it. Who is the person in the picture, and what is he or she doing there? What sounds do you imagine? Imagine you are the artist. Where are you standing? Where is the sun? If it is morning, what direction are you looking? Look at the tree shadows for a clue. Close your eyes. Can you still imagine the picture? Tell everything you remember. If you like, sketch the picture.

Observe: During today’s walk, focus on trees, buds and blossoms. Be curious. How long do the blooms last? Which trees have flowers and which do not? Look closely! Sometimes tree “flowers” do not look like other flowers. If you are not sure if something on a tree is a flower, touch it. Do you see or feel pollen? Hold a bloom in your hand and examine it closely. If desired, sketch the different blooms you discover.
