“A River Scene” by Jan van Goyen (1642)
Activities
Look: Study the picture. Notice everything you can and try to remember it. What time of day does it look like? What is the weather like, and how do you know? Close your eyes. Can you still imagine the picture? Look again. Now look away. Tell everything you remember without looking.

Observe: Go outside and look at the sky. What kinds of clouds do you see? Do they look still or like they are moving? What is the weather like? Take a picture of the clouds now, and then come back in an hour to see if they look the same. Tell everything you notice.
